Read John 2:13–25
Verse 25: "And needed not that any should testify
of man: for he knew what was in man."
Many believed in Jesus because of the miracles that He
did. Verse 24 says, "But Jesus did not commit
himself unto them, because he knew all men." He
knew that they would betray Him later, but they did not know
this! The Scriptures tell us that our hearts are deceitfully
wicked above all things (Jer. 17:9). The crowd believed that
they loved Jesus, but their love did not hold true when it
was tested. They had a certain idea of how their Savior
should be, and when their expectations were not met, they
forsook Him.
This is why we need to pray. Prayer helps us to love and
appreciate God as He is. It is easy to expect God to do
things in a way that makes sense to our human minds, but in
the end, we will be disappointed and disillusioned. The more
time we spend in prayer, the less surprised we will be at
the way God answers our prayers.
God may send suffering into our lives to make us more
compassionate toward others. He may allow us to be
financially needy for a while so that we will learn to trust
in Him more. There is no reason to fear the unknown, for God
will do all things well in our lives. He is perfect in all
His ways.
